Received a gun shot wound in his right breast, said shot
striking him near the right nipple and glanced around the ribs
and injured the large tendon and muscles under and back of his
right arm leaving his body under and to the rear of said right
arm. He cannot lift or chop wood without inflaming said
wound and that he cannot raise said right arm above the level of
his shoulder without pain.
23rd November 1862 was the date he received the wound.

Taken from article by Helen Cox Tregillis....
Otto "Bud" was a tinsmith and jeweler and operated a shop in
Cowden for several years in the early 1900's. He later
sold his shop and moved his fmily to Shelbyville, where he
worked as a tinsmith. He was known to have bought the
first automobile in Cowden. It was a two cylinder REO,
with a crank on the side of the car, acetylene head lamps,
kerosene burning side and tail lamps and many other features
that would be considered oddities in later days. On one
occaision, he made a notable trip by automobile which was widely
publicized. Having some business to transact, he left
early one morning, drove to Shelbyville transacted his business
and drove back to Cowden, all in the same day.
