The Old Butner Cemetery, is where my great grandmother Sarah
Elizabeth Hooper Butner, the daughter of Edley Hooper, is
buried, as well as, most of her children, some of her
Grandchildren, and even some of her great grandchildren. The
year of birth that was posted is wrong, probably from the
marker being so old it was hard to read. April 3,
1887, should read April 3,1837. I know the date of
death August 5, 1912 is correct. S.E. Butner, died
eleven days before my mother was born. My grandmother Mary
"Agnes" Butner Shepard was always very sad, because she
couldn't make the trip from Arkansas to Oklahoma for her
mother's funeral.
Here is a list of Sarah Elizabeth Hooper Butner's descendants,
that do not have the name of Butner, that are buried in the
cemetery: her daughters Mary Agnes Shepard and Dora Harriet
Stephens; granddaughters Cecil L Butler and Opal J. Pollard;
grandson Clifford Shepard and my sister, her granddaughter, is
buried there, but to date Verna Morphew has not been added to
the transcription.
