73, of Avon Park, died Friday evening, September 12,
2008, in Ashville, NC.
A native of Mayo, Florida, he moved to Avon Park in 1942. He was a 1953 graduate of Avon Park High School. He served in the United States Navy. He retired from South Florida Community College having taught electronics for over 32 years. He was very active in the local boy scouts for over 40 years and had received the Silver Beaver Award from the Gulf Ridge Council. He was a charter member and Past President of the Breakfast Rotary Club of Avon Park. In 2004 he received the Judge Kelly Champion for Children Award in Highlands County. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Alma Hooper; daughter and son-in-law, Misty Hooper and Steve Dollar, Lakeland, FL; son and daughter-in-law, Marc and Ruth Hooper, Tinley Park, IL; sister, Judith Moots, Winter Haven, FL; two nephews, Richard and Robert Moots, Winter Haven, FL. A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m., Saturday afternoon, September 27, 2008, at Reflections on Silver Lake with Jeff Roth officiating.
